Callalily -- pictures linked in

[image] This is an original pattern. I thought about making my mom a floral doily with roses and lilies, sort of a Blessed Mother doily, and when I poked around for a lily pattern, I didn't find one. Well, a callalily is just a pineapple pinched together at the bottom, so why not make one like that?

The pineapple I used for this was the one that I got from the pattern for my Four-Leaf Clover doily. That pattern used to be available on-line but the collection has since been yanked.

I used Knit-Cro-Sheens yellow and white #10 and a #6 hook. I know, you're supposed to use a #7 with #10 thread, but it drives me bats.

If you find errors in this pattern, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!. And if you make anything with this pattern, and I can link to a picture on line, please let me know as well. I'd love to see what you did!

NOTE:: In this pattern, shell = 2dc ch2 2dc, but you're not making any shells until the very end.

Ch33 with the yellow thread, and then dc in the 3rd chain from hook. dc in the rest of the chains for a long line of 30 dc's including the turning chain.

Switch to the white thread.

RND 1:

Ch4, and then put 12tr's around the post of the last dc. Sl st into top of beg ch4.

What you have now: a long line of yellow dc's with the beginning of a white pineapple fanning out from around the post of the last yellow dc.

RND 2:

Ch4, turn. *(Ch1 tr) 11 times, and tr. Sl st in top of beg ch4.

RND 3:

Ch4, turn. *(Ch2 tr) 11 times, and tr. St st in top of beg ch4.

You should now have the start of a white pineapple that's pinched together at the bottom, with a long tail of yellow dc's hanging off of it.

RND 4:

Ch5, turn. sc in first ch2-sp. *(Ch5 sc in ch2-sp) all the way across the pineapple.

RND 5-finish:

Ch5, turn. Do the same, and just keep going until the pineapple is done. It's just like a regular pineapple.

When you finish the top ch5 loop in the pineapple, ch5, turn, and sc into that last loop.

Sl st to the middle of that loop, and then just do a series of shells (2dc-ch2-2dc) separated by ch2's in the pineapple's turning loops.

When that's done, cut thread and hide all the tail ends. To get the long tail of yellow dc's into the interior of the lily, thread a needle with some leftover thread and wrap the thread around the turning chain of the tail of dc's. Then, use that to tug the tail of dc's through the hole at the bottom of the lily so that it's inside the "cup". It'll twist in a spiral; let it.

You can use these things for decorations on anything -- doilies, jackets, or just put them on some fake flower stems and make a bouquet. They'd probably make nice decorations for Easter or Beltaine or something. They're fast as anything, too.

I'm working on doing a less "lacy" looking one with all tr's or sc's, so that the loopy look isn't there. I'll let you know how it goes.
