Let’s Move! Museums and Gardens: Fostering a Healthier Society

Let’s Move! is a comprehensive initiative, launched by First Lady Michelle Obama, dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. This call for healthy living comes in a time of increased alarm as our society faces a regional and national health crisis. How are museums participating in transforming behaviors to ensure a healthier community for our present and future citizens? This session invites you to explore this question through the program offerings of three Texas institutions: Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Witte Museum.

A Night with Andy Warhol

Join the “It” list and become a celebrity for the night! The McNay Art Museum proudly presents Andy Warhol: Fame and Misfortune , organized by the McNay from the collections of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Seen only in San Antonio, this remarkable exhibition examines Warhol’s lifelong obsession with both fame and disaster. TAM guests will view the exhibition and enjoy music from Warhol’s era as well as fabulous food and drinks. Exploring the site visitors will discover two distinct styles of architecture. In June 2008 a newly opened glass pavilion nearly doubled the size of the McNay Art Museum, providing new exhibition space for special and traveling exhibitions. The $33.1 million Jane and Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions, designed by architect Jean Paul Viguier, is set amid 23 acres of gardens. The contemporary expansion complements the historic Spanish Colonial Revival mansion that forms the core of the McNay, the first museum of modern art in Texas.

Pre-registration is required. Participation is limited. $38 fee includes reception and transportation.

Buses will depart the El Tropicano River Walk starting at 6:30 p.m. and will return by 9:30 p.m.
