Cindy Huyser, Poet
Cindy Huyser grew up in metro Detroit . She
graduated with honors from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana with
a B. A. in English (minor: mathematics). While at Tri-State, she shared
first prize in the university's poetry contest, and later was the editor
of the student newspaper, The TriAngle.
Since then, Cindy has lived in Austin, Texas. She recently
completed an M. S. in computer science at Southwest Texas State University
(Texas State University - San Marcos).
In 2008, Cindy joined the editorial staff of
Dos Gatos Press as a co-editor of
the Texas Poetry Calendar.

Cindy is one of five authors whose works were published in the anthology
(Plain View Press, 1994). Twenty
of her poems appear in this volume.
Cindy has also co-edited the Texas Poetry Calendar from 2008 through 2013.

Blue Hole, the anthology of the 2013 Georgetown Poetry Festival, and San Pedro River Review (Spring 2013 and Fall 2013).
Cindy has read her work at a number of venues in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston
Texas. She was a juried poet for the 2011 Houston Poetry Fest, and a featured poet
for the 2012 Houston Poetry Fest. In May and November 2013, she read for the Houston
Public Poetry Series.
She has been a participant in the Austin International Poetry
Festival since its inception, and has hosted readings for it the last couple of
In 2011, she began hosting the monthly poetry reading and open mic at BookWoman
that was originally founded by Deb Akers. The BookWoman poetry reading takes place
every 2nd Thursday of the month, and goes from 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Cindy has been a guest on Austin's KOOP radio, and was interviewed for KUHA's
Front Row program in conjunction with the Public Poetry Series. She has also
been a guest on Margo LaGattuta's "Art in the Air" radio show in Rochester,
In November, 1996, Cindy was Guest Poet at the Austin Independent School
District's Liberal Arts Academy at Johnston High School.
Cindy will be a featured reader January 4, 2014 at the Expressions reading at the Austin Bahai Center. The reading begins at 7:00.
Cindy will be the featured reader for the First Friday poetry reading of the Dallas Poets Community on Friday, March 7, 2014.
