Rewrite of the Texas Department of State Health Services Regulatory Philosophy

Read the Regulatory Philosophy document at the Texas Department of State Health Services website: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/fdlicense/pdf/DSHSregphilosophy.pdf (opens in a separate browser window).

Then using principles of audience and cultural context from chapter 1 of the textbook, rewrite the article for an audience of middleschool- aged children.

The article should be appropriate for this audience in terms of diction (word choice), sentence length, and explanation. For example, you may need to more clearly explain concepts like .regulated community.. You should figure out what the department means by this term and explain it in a way that is understandable to your audience. If you are confused by the board's terminology, do not hesitate to contact the board and ask them what they mean!

This is an exercise in your ability to adapt writing for a specific audience. You will be graded on how well you transform this document into one that is readable and understandable to the assigned audience.

The design of your document should mimic the board's document as much as possible. Notice how they make use of the first letters in each paragraph to spell REACH and their use of columns to organize the text.
