Help-System Formatting Project

The following project gives you some practice designing a moderately sized help system for a small software application. The text is available for you—unformatted—later in this page. Apply what you've learned both about online help and about page design (in particular, the guidelines for headings, lists, tables, notices, and highlighting). You are not obligated to edit the text in any way, although you may need to create lead-ins to lists and text between consecutive headings.

In this project you take unformatted information and do the following:

Use this highlighting scheme:

The rest of the design for this help system is up to you and your imagination. Have fun—or at least try!

Output that project to whichever target you prefer:

Note: If you can't figure out how to do any of these tasks, post a note to the open forum for the class.

About Savings Bond Wizard
Savings Bond Wizard is a free program, available from the U.S. Treasury Department, that helps you track your savings bonds.

About This Tutorial
This tutorial shows you how to download, install, and use the Wizard.
How to Use This Tutorial
Use this tutorial as a step-by-step guide to creating and maintaining your portfolio of savings bonds. The menu on the left shows you all the topics that we'll cover. You can use the menu to move from one topic to another. You can also move through the tutorial by clicking the blue arrows at the bottom of each screen.
This tutorial uses the following conventions:
Bold indicates menu options, buttons, and other items that you select on the screen.
Monospace indicates examples of text similar to what you might see on the screen, or values that you should actually type.
Step-by-step directions are numbered, to make them easy for you to follow. When you have a choice, the choices are presented in a bulleted list, just like the bulleted list you're reading now.
To get started, just click on the blue arrow below!
