Hello, FrameMakers! It's almost over.

Read chapter 11 and Appendix A and take the quizzes.

Send me a gorgeous, beautiful user guide by Dec. 10. I'll review, comment, and return by the 13th; final perfect draft due Dec. 17 (or you can just take whatever final course grade based on the initial).

Hello, all. I had to spend a couple of days in the hospital so that put me behind. I'm okay now; I'll catch up with your work by this coming Wed.

For this short week:

Read ReadMe 8 and 9 and take the quizzes
Be working on your final FrameMaker project

Could you send post a note to the Open Forum as to what you will be writing about?

By the way, if you've done everything else in the course successfully, you can skip the final project for a B in the course. But why, oh why?

This week:

Do the indexing unit : send me the practice files.
Read Chapters 17 and 18 and take the quizzes.
Read McMurrey on indexing and take the quiz.

OK, I'll switch to this new project. Looks interesting. Should we make our own judgements about fonts to use (and other formatting details), or will you be including those?

Hey, FrameMaker people! I hope I'm not messing up but I found a much better book item for you to format. It's a user guide for a web cam for 4 different languages. You need only do 2 languages.

https://www.prismnet.com/~tcm/etwr2472/guides/book_format2.html

Let me know if I've messed you up. You can still do either project.

The more I thought about it last night, the more I realized it's not practical. Too many problems. I think best is to stick with the Mac book. -- David

That looks interesting! I've already started on the other, but the hardware one looks like good experience. Not sure yet which way I'll go.

Hi, FrameMakers! I noticed a wrong date: the book-format project is due Nov. 19 -- I have made that change

Also in the works is a visit to a FrameMaker forum. These are good resources; you'll always have anomalies coming up with FrameMaker.

I have been working on a new option for the book-formatting project. It's still very challenging but not as time consuming, I think.

It will be at this link later today:

Subject:Possible solution to Framemaker crashing
I was having trouble with repeated crashes of Framemaker (messages that it had stopped working), when starting to edit the book files. I searched online to see if others had similar problems. I discovered a list of fixes including for the problem of Framemaker 2017 crashes when trying to edit a Framemaker 11 mif file! (I had changed the mifs to fms before I did any editing.)

It seems that our trial may not include the fix updates that came out in May and June. :( So, in Framemaker, I went to Help > Updates and downloaded the updates. So far, it hasn't crashed since.

Hi David,
While I haven't finished watching the video yet, you solved my problem right at the beginning. Having clicked on the footer on the master page, I needed to look at the Paragraph Designer, then Advanced, then Line over Pgf. I thought I had looked at this before and seen "As is", but now when I look I see "Single Line". So I changed that and Applied and that fixed it. Then it occurred to me to see what the paragraph designation was. It was bc_head. I don't know why it was, but that's where the line was coming from.

I did not realize in what an unfinished state I left our FrameMaker course! Please accept my apologies.

* I have complete changing all dates to this fall semester.

* I have added back video and other study resources to the practice (actually, still adding).

And so I applaud you for figuring things out for yourself so far!

You may need to refresh/reload your browser.

Hi. Hope FrameMaker is treating you properly. Still not word from Adobe, but I have a plan. I own a license to FrameMaker 11; the features, interface that we will use are no different in v11 to v15. If we have to, I'll make copies of v11 for you. Until then, send me MIF versions of your files.

This week:

* Study and practice tables and tags; send me the practice files in MIF
* Practice files, tag project due Oct.8
* Readme quizzes 1 and 2 due Oct. 8 (ReadMe is a great overview of the technical publishing business; but if you want skip it, fine.)
