Setting Up Your Drupal Site
Caution: Both OSTraining and lynda.com tutorials showcase Acquia. Acquia does make installing Drupal easy—but the installed Drupal site will be on your Mac or PC and not accessible on the Internet by others or by me your instructor.
The plan for hosting your Drupal site is not established yet. Here are the possibilities:
- Free account on a reseller account paid for by ACC.
- Free but limited account you set up at Pantheon. If you want to use the drupal site you set up at Pantheon for real professional purposes, you'll have to establish ann account (starting at $25 per month).
- An account you set up and pay for yourself at some place like JustHost, WestHost, BlueHost, or Austin's own A Small Orange. Unless things change, you'll have to get a domain name. Some examples: JustHost has a $3.95 per month introductory offer but requires a 12-month account. It offers CPanel, Drupal 8, and the requirements to go with Drupal 8. No domain is required. BlueHost Education offers $4.95 and a free domain name.
Caution: Some web hosts like these have a huge renewal fee. Be sure and ask about it before you pay for an account. After your first year is over, the renewal fee might triple or quadruple!
This course provides you with a free Internet account for the duration of this semester. The account will be set up using a "reseller" account, which is still being arranged. If that doesn't work out, we'll set up a Drupal site on your instructor's personal ISP account. Your other alternative is to set up a free, trial account at Pantheon.
